Liposuction Reshapes The Areas Exercise Missed

Men and women wonder about liposuction. At first, they assume that with the right diet and exercise, they can reshape their bodies and end up with the results they had hoped for. But after hours in the gym, denying themselves certain types of foods, and pushing their bodies into submission, they realize that there are some areas that exercise just cannot reach. This does not mean that changing what you eat or your activity level is not important. However, it does mean that to take your results to the next level, you may want to consider something more.

Diet And Exercise First

Most cosmetic surgeons are going to suggest that a person maintain a healthy diet and some form of exercise before undergoing liposuction. While it is surgery, it is not a permanent solution. It is possible to regain the weight, and there is a good chance that it will distribute itself back to the same areas. Also, only so much can be done by liposuction. Patients do not go in and once the procedure is done, come out fifteen to twenty pounds lighter. The purpose of the procedure is to reshape and form the body into a more appealing version of itself.

Deciding To Talk To A Surgeon

If you have kept up with a fitness routine, you may have noticed some of the pounds dropping off and parts of your body starting to change. Once you are for the most part happy with how you look, it is time to start checking out some of your options for reshaping and continuing the hard work that you have put in. This often means seeking out a plastic surgeon that handles liposuction.

Schedule an initial consultation to learn more about your options. You want to make sure that you are a healthy candidate with reasonable expectations. You can be sure that the physician is going to caution you about what to expect. This is not a weight-loss procedure. It is more about changing the shape of the body and your doctor will want you to understand this concept before going any further.

Focusing On A Specific Area

Once you know that you can have liposuction, you want to determine where it needs to be done. There are several places in the body that will see major changes from this type of operation. Figure out what part of your body you are unhappy with and find out if the change is possible. It is not unusual for both men and women to come in and have the procedure done in multiple areas at the same time. Those getting a facelift may want to have some of the extra fat from around the chin and neck removed. Patients getting a tummy tuck often want a little extra fat taken out there as well.

Increase Your Comfort With Orthotics For Your Feet

Are you constantly feeling pain in your feet because of flat arches? If so, you shouldn't feel ashamed. It is estimated that up to seventy percent of the population suffers from a condition called over-pronation that occurs due to flat feet, or fallen arches. This condition occurs in different degrees of severity, with some people experiencing more issues with their feet than others. If you're finding that heel, knee and back pain are becoming too common, you may want to consider orthotics.

What exactly are orthotics? They are devices that are placed inside your shoes with the purpose of getting feet to function like they were intended. When over-pronation causes the balance of our lower body to become disrupted, we need some kind of device to correct the issue. The insoles help realign the foot and ankle bones to their proper, natural position, allow the foot to function normally. As a result, the pain in the feet will disappear, as well as pain that extends to the knees and lower back area. You'll be able to run and walk without feeling like a break is necessary due to overwhelming pain.

Why are orthotics a worthwhile investment? The fact is that many of use suffer from over-pronation without even realizing the root problem. If you're walking on flat surfaces daily, you're not doing your body any favors. Other factors that lead to foot function becoming an issue are age, bad ankles and knees and excess body weight. If you are overweight and fifty years or older, getting the insoles may just be the perfect solution that you need. They can eliminate the common aches and pains for a low price and prevent any lower body problems from getting worse.

If you already have common insoles already, you may be curious how orthotics are any different. Regular insoles are only designed to provide cushioning and shock absorption. While they are great at providing comfort, they don't address the physical route of the problem. The foot and ankles are not being corrected. Also, they can be made of soft materials, took weak to have any real long term effect. By investing in orthotics, you'll know you're getting a device that corrects and optimizes how the feet work.

So how exactly do they work? They do plenty more than just supporting the arches of your foot. They realign the feet and the ankles and distribute your weight properly, taking the pressure off the spots of the body commonly under stress (the balls of the feet and heels). They also provide some shock absorption, but their intended purpose is always to make sure your foot functions properly. If you are looking to try to get your body to function like it always was intended to and avoid any serious injury in the future, you may to want ditch the regular insoles you bought at the supermarket and invest in proven, advanced technology. Do your feet and ankles a favor and purchase the best option to get them working fully once again.

Combining Traditional Medicine With Natural Healing

Natural medicines made from herbs and plants have been around since the dawn of mankind. The advent of modern medicine has made natural healing less common. However, in recent decades, the interest in natural medicine has been revived. Bear in mind, it is important to work with your physician when you take natural medicines to avoid dangerous complications.

Finding a Physician Who Is Knowledgeable in Natural Medicine

Patients who are interested in natural medicine should find a general practitioner or family physician who is skilled with the type of natural medicine you are interested in. For example, those interested in traditional Chinese remedies should find a physician who knows enough about the remedies to be able to work with them in conjunction with their Western style of medicine. The physician does not necessarily need to practice the form of medicine, but they must understand its principles well enough to avoid prescribing a medication that will interact with your herbal medicines.

Finding a Natural Healer

Although there are many highly skilled, experienced natural healers, keep in mind that anyone can claim to be a natural healer. Very few natural forms of medicine are regulated by any sort of accrediting body or governed by a state licensing agency, which means that there are unscrupulous people claiming to be able to heal when in fact they cannot. Ask the healers detailed questions about where they received their training. Beware of those without medical training who claim to be self-taught. Their training may not be adequate to provide any helpful advice in the form of natural medicine that they claim to practice, and even worse, they may inadvertently cause harm through their lack of knowledge. Look for a healer that has completed an educational path or who has apprenticed with another healer. Then, ask for references.

Purchasing Natural Remedies

Most natural remedies, or the ingredients to make natural or herbal medicines, can be purchased at a natural foods store. However, it is important to ask the healer detailed questions before you make any purchases. Some herbs are made in several forms and strengths, and one form or strength may be less effective or even have a different effect than another. Even worse, because natural remedies are medications, patients can accidentally overdose on them. Before you make your purchase, read labels. Make sure that the remedy is the form and strength that you need. Do not substitute without consulting your natural healer.

When to Consult a Physician

The physician should always be consulted before beginning any natural medicine regimen. Always tell your physician about any natural remedies you are taking, and always tell your natural healer about any medicines you are taking. Natural remedies and medications can cause dangerous drug interactions that can cause serious health problems or even fatalities. Even supplements that sound harmless can have dangerous side effects or may render other medicines useless, or even worse, ramp up their effectiveness, causing an overdose.

Finding Out More about Natural Medicine

The best place to find out more about natural medicine is from someone who has had extensive training in the practice. However, the local library and some university or organization-run websites may also be credible sources of information about the natural medical tradition. However, patients should not put themselves on any natural supplement or medicine without consulting a physician and a natural healer, if one is available.

Natural Medicine and Traditional Medicine

Many people feel that they must choose between natural and clinical medicine. This is not the case. When used judiciously and safely, natural medicine may be a safe addition to, or even an alternative to, clinical medicines. In fact, in many cases, natural remedies may be even safer than their clinical counterparts.

Shape Your Ears With Expert Otoplasty Surgeons

Many individuals have a problem of a certain body part being oddly shaped from birth. This strange appearance may be off putting for others and hence it affects the confidence of the person. Otoplasty refers to the process of reshaping a part or parts of the ear so that it gains the right shape. This procedure is called ear surgery in simpler terms and is followed through by an ear surgeon. There are several otoplasty surgeons that can come in handy for undertaking this procedure. However, the best thing to do is to depend only on an experienced otoplasty surgeon just to be on the safer side.

The first concern as a patient should be to search for a surgeon that is well equipped to perform this surgery. Make sure the surgeon has all the necessary qualifications so that there are no risks during the operation. Children undergo this surgery at a young age but it is not unlikely to see adults opting for this surgery for getting a good appearance. Children going with big or oddly shaped ears can become easy target for ridicule at school. The wise thing to do is to seek the help otoplasty in order to save them the ignominy of being ridiculed in their formative years.

Aesthetics is a big part of otoplasty as with any other cosmetic surgery so this should definitely play a role while choosing the surgeon. Try to find a surgeon that has plenty of experience in this area so that you can avail an aesthetically pleasant outcome. Hence, you should never choose a doctor that is not aware of the basic functions of the ear and its inner elements. This is why you need to select a doctor that will not compromise on the visual appeal and the proper working of the ear. These two elements should not be forgotten and given equal importance by the surgeon.

Looking at the testimonials of the patients that have been treated by the doctor earlier should also help you in making a choice. Find out about the past surgeries carried out by the doctor and come to know what to expect when you get treated. The outcome of the procedure will eventually depend on the capabilities of the surgeon so do not opt for a surgeon with no prior experience. The best surgeons will be able to give you the appealing results without causing too much scarring. Scarring is another important aspect that you should keep in mind as well.

The recovery time after the procedure is also a very important aspect. You can get more information about the recovery time by totaling to different otoplasty surgeons. A well equipped surgeon will have the ability to perform the surgery properly so as to reduce the recovery time. All these issues need to be looked into very serious so that you can choose the right ear surgeon in order to get the size of your ears fixed. Take care of all these issues to find the right surgeon to conduct otoplasty.

Finding a Health Club That Offers Pilates Classes

Pilates is an exercise program that has a holistic approach to helping your body and mind through exercise. This form of exercise may help you with life-debilitating problems. It is also a beneficial program for most ages. Whether you are a teenager or in your 80s, it is something that may benefit you. Before starting a program, it is important to find a health club that not only offers this form of exercise but also has other good attributes.

Attributes to consider as you seek the right health club for Pilates should include cleanliness, professional trainers, good customer service, and affordability. Each of these areas should contribute to your time at the health club being an enjoyable experience.

In a health club, cleanliness is very important. You will want someplace that takes pride in cleaning several times a day, having sanitizing wipes and necessary cleaning products for customers to use, and keeping the locker rooms spotless and sanitized throughout the day. You should visit health clubs before choosing one to make sure that everything looks nice before you sign into a program.

It is also important that those who will be doing the Pilates class are professional trainers. It should not just be someone who learned the exercise. There should be some semi-formal training as well as first aid and safety training.

Customer service is another essential. Until you are a part of a health club, you might not have a complete impression of what it is like, so you may want to ask around as well as look up reviews online. People will mention it if a place has poor customer service.

Affordability is also a consideration. You might want to see if they have a trial program so that you can make sure that you want to stick with the Pilates or their specific health club. This would help you in the other areas as well because you might not know about some issues until you start going someplace.

After considering these areas, you might be sure when you find the right place. If you still have some question marks in your mind about a certain health club, then you may want to ask for a trial membership whether or not they offer this.

If you are in need of a program to help you get in shape without the bulkiness you sometimes see, and if you have health problems or are older and are not interested in a high-stress cardio program, then Pilates may be your best option. You will not enjoy it as you would, however, unless you find the right health club where you can be a member.

Possible Risks and Complications of the Tummy Tuck Procedure

The abdominoplasty, also known as the tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure that entails taking out the excess fat and tissues that are present in the abdomen of the patient. There are several techniques that can be used to do the procedure. There is what is called a complete and partial abdominoplasty which pretty much explains themselves with just their names. There is also an extended procedure, a high lateral operation and a floating abdominoplasty. The goals of all these techniques are to flatten and tighten the abdomen of the patient in such a way that it appears lean and trim. The differences among these methods lie mainly on how and where the surgeon makes the incisions as well as the extent of the operation. Some of them are a combination of the main tummy tuck procedure and a butt lift, a breast lift, a liposuction or any other operation that is usually done in the region.

Risks and Complications

There are several possible risks and complications that can accompany any kind of major operation. One of the major risks that can occur after an abdominoplasty is noticeable scarring. The abdominal region is one of the regions which can be exposed due to activities and fashion choices. Sports and other outdoor activities may require the woman or man to don clothes which may expose the midriff or the abdomen. Unfavorable scars are something that some individuals do not like to expose and they may be self-conscious about it.

Some people are prone to scarring and the appearance of keloidal scars in some parts of the body. There are some ointments that can be applied on the fresh scar in order to promote a softer and less visible healing. Another possible risk of undergoing the tummy tuck is the loss of sensation in the area. Some surgeries can take away the sensation in an area temporarily or permanently, depending on how good the plastic surgeon is. There is nothing that can be done if the loss is permanent, whereas temporary loss can happen directly after the procedure but the sensation comes back after several days. Another possible risk and complication that can occur is the development of an infection in the area where the operation was done. This can happen is bacteria and germs are introduced into the incisions with the use of compromised instruments. An infection can compromise the health of a person as well as prevent the correct healing and recovery of the surgical area. Asymmetry is another possible occurrence that is not favorable in the eyes of the patient and the plastic surgeon after a tummy tuck. A crooked abdomen or an uneven one can appear ridiculous and embarrassing. This can happen is the growth and healing of the wound is not even or if an infection may have compromised the area.

There are other possible risks and complication that can occur after or during the procedure. It is best to air one's concerns and anxieties with the plastic surgeon before the operation.

Bruce Lee Workouts, Massive Reps, Unstoppable Techniques

Training since I was 14 with Kenpo, then into boxing, kickboxing, most of 40 years, even with champions, and a year with the 15 year world champion kickboxer, I began a journey based on a Bruce Lee principle. Note: My first Sensei had 3 ribs broken by Mr Lee.

I'll get into the reasons I came to this place in martial arts as we get rolling here.

I always remembered this quote from Mr Lee, one that's been heard by most in martial arts, "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."

I read this as a kid, in his writings as most of us have. A few years ago I heard about a wrestler who was taught one move and practiced it on anyone and everyone for years, then took it into competition. He was unstoppable. Even though opposing coaches and opponents knew that was his only move, bam, they were down!

THIS was the meaning behind his quote above. THIS is when a kick becomes simply a kick again. If you study Mr Lee's training, you'd find him on many a day throwing some kick or punch 500 reps! Certain days he performed as many as 2,000 lead punches! Years of this meant once he fired a punch or kick it was 100% likely to land, accurate, hard.

So, understanding that the main purpose of massive reps is to create what Mr Lee stated, "a neurologically set pattern" where thought is not required to launch the technique, you'll find it fires at the exact time it's supposed to given the distance, opening, timing, etc. This also frees one up to express themselves rather than "try" to win, defend, or land something.

This is where I started, having some skills and being athletic, in my mind, I made the decision to go all the way with this concept, finally, and never quit till I finished! Out of respect to Mr Lee, failure/quitting was not an option.

Through his dedication to perfecting a strike or technique, Bruce Lee found after many thousands of reps, that once the technique was applied it was virtually unstoppable.

Besides giving you huge self confidence, it also created a foundational movement that one could build upon. I discovered so much more when I embarked on this journey. Here's what I did...

Realizing any punch or kick could be used to perfect, I thought about the most efficient combo ever, the simple 1-2 punch. This combo, lead left jab, straight right (I'm more right handed) although not some pretty flying spin kick, is probably the most effective, economical combo there is. Over many years I have thrown this combo probably over two thousand times. Trained by a pro boxer on how to throw it, I would at least be close to very decent in form.

A couple yrs ago at the age of 53, functioning normal (can run 10mi of mountains, etc), to which I'm always Thankful to God, I decided it to apply this Bruce Lee concept to my life. This was a conscious decision to absolutely do this, and I wasn't going to stop till completed!

Realizing most opponents are not going to be at quite the right distance to just throw this combo, I started with the lead leg (left in my case) slide into the left jab (bridge the gap) then the straight right. I did this in the air hundreds of times first, at a rate of 100 combo's/day or session... around 3 times/wk. I usually broke it into two mini sessions of 50ea. I marked it on the calendar so I could add it up.

This is how I started... it began with my first 100. It took around 7-8 months, so don't get in a hurry. Sure you can do 200-500/day, but here's why I stopped at 100... my goal wasn't just sheer quantity, but also quality! Each rep had to be correct or very close (to better set a neurological pattern). Each rep had to have maximum speed involving quick twitch muscle fiber. Each rep had to be explosive, accurate, balanced, hitting hard enough with either hand to be very damaging. By only doing 100 reps I was still crisp and strong at the end, I've done 200 or more in a day but felt that quality was less, so I stayed at 100.

I am open for discussion to help you on your journey. Feel free to email, comment, and share with martial artists, so far I don't know of anyone who has taken this Bruce Lee quote and completed it, please let me know if you do, thanks!

God Bless,

~Gary

Finding a Boot Camp to Help You Get Back in Shape

If you are overweight and out of shape, then you need to make a change. The change might be lifestyle changes as well as eating habits, but you probably also need a workout program that provides accountability to help you meet your fitness goals. A boot camp program will guarantee major changes in the first month. Look for a program like this near you.

There are times in everyone's life when it is difficult to take the time to get in shape and think about your weight. In these times when you just feel like you need to catch up on your weight, you might need to do something drastic. A boot camp program may be exactly what you need. You might need someone telling you want to do and encouraging you to do it right. This will not be like a military program, but it will still get the job done.

If you are wondering about results, you should know that you could lose up to 12 pounds and 5% of your body fat by the end of the first month. Those are great results. That much fat loss means inches too. Along with weight loss, you will probably also experience other health benefits. These could include emotional health with increased confidence and other aspects of your physical health such as better sleep and a benefit that will turn back the clock on aging.

If you are not convinced by these likely results, you should read stories about and talk to those who have benefited from going to a boot camp. You can likely find success stories and before-and-after photos if you look for them. Reading about the results and seeing some results in person should solidify the fact that this work out will work for some people. You will just need to decide if it is for you.

Going to a boot camp will be hard work. You will need to dedicate yourself every day to getting the job done and doing your best. If you do not feel like you have this ability, there may still be hope. You might want to call and ask to speak with a trainer. There is likely someone there who has helped someone just like you. Even though you do not think you can do it, you will likely find that with the right pace and person, you will do great. It might end up taking you longer if you have a long way to go, but that is okay, because you will get the job done.

If you are still not sure that a boot camp is for you, then go see one in action. Seeing the women working hard might allow you to believe that you can do it too.

Sugar Free Drinks That Taste Great - Make Something Delicious and Healthy For Your Kids

Do you have a hard time finding drinks your kids love without sugar? For sugar-free drinks, some people recommend using artificial sugar-free substitutes, but that is really not a healthy option. Did you know that sugar substitutes have many adverse health effects? Those who consume them also tend to NOT lose weight, but actually gain weight! So, if you want your children to be healthy, you need to make them drinks that are free not only of added sugar, but also free of chemicals like those found in artificial sweeteners.

Fructose is another sweetener to avoid. It appears to more easily convert to fat in the body, and added fructose has been linked to not only the obesity epidemic in America, but also heart disease, diabetes and immune system disorders. But it is added to many store-bought drinks that are not sugar-free.

However, if your children eat a healthy diet and get a good amount of exercise, they do not need to avoid all natural sugar in their diet. The sugar found in fruits, if eaten in moderation, can give them energy, and the fruits will also give them a variety of vitamins and other phytochemicals to boost their health. Also, all-natural, 100% pure maple syrup is another good sweetener to use in moderation. It contains many vitamins and minerals, as well as the sweet taste many like. If your child is overweight, or pre-diabetic, especially if he or she tends to put weight on around the midsection, you will want to encourage a lower intake of all sugars and carbohydrates. The more exercise your child does, the more carbohydrates he or she can take in without harm.

Water is also important. If your child is used to drinking a lot of sweet beverages, whether soda pop or juice, he or she may balk at first, but drinking enough water is a very important practice to teach them. You can also buy mineral water with some carbonation, and mix that in 1/2 and 1/2, more or less, with juice, to get them used to having less sugar. Many parents start out with 3/4 juice and 1/4 mineral water, and work their way up to the opposite: 3/4 mineral water and 1/4 juice. In addition to plain or mineral water, we have 2 recipes for you to try at home:

Cherry Cream Soda

  • Carbonated Mineral Water
  • 1-2 Tablespoons 100% Pure Cherry Concentrate
  • 1-2 Tablespoons Pure Cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla (optional)

Pour the cherry concentrate and cream, to taste, along with the vanilla into each 8 oz glass of the mineral water and stir. Add ice if you wish.

Strawberry Banana Chocolate Smoothie

  • 3-4 strawberries
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1-2 Tablespoons chocolate whey protein powder
  • 3/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
  • 1-2 teaspoons pure maple syrup (optional)
  • 1-2 cubes of ice (optional)

Mix in a blender or in a glass with a hand-held blender (if not using the ice). If your child likes the taste of coconuts, use virgin coconut oil, otherwise, use a high quality expeller-pressed coconut oil. This drink may be plenty sweet for some, but for those used to a lot of sugar, you may need to add the maple syrup. Also, vanilla can make it taste sweeter without adding any sugar. This drink is a good one at breakfast time, or when coming home from school. The protein in the whey will help to fill your child up and the coconut oil gives energy and staying power.

If your child doesn't notice, you can also add some powdered sea vegetables, like kelp, in small quantities. Sea vegetables add many trace minerals that are missing from many children's diets today.

* Make sure and get a whey protein powder that is made from milk from cow's out on pasture, and that has not been acid processed or denatured in any way. You also need one without any added sugar or artificial colors, flavorings or preservatives. For recommendations, see the resource page.

NOTE: A lot of people these days are worried about having too many fats in their diets, especially saturated fats. But natural fats are needed by our bodies. In fact, around the turn of the last century, heart disease was practically unheard of; yet people ate high amounts of saturated fats with cream, full fat milk, yogurt, butter and meats. Getting enough of the right kinds of fats can help you and your children crave less sugar!

So stop giving your children drinks with sugar added, and try these sugar-free drinks today!

Cosmetology Schools and Their Common Courses

Cosmetology schools abound in the country and may be considered as one of the most popular educational arenas for those who wish to enter the workforce sooner rather than later. The field offers a lot of choices for future cosmetologists who have not yet determined what they want to specialize in. Despite there being specialties, these places offer the basics for their students like distinguishing what the individual's needs are with regards to hair and make-up.

Hair Specialty

Specialists who deal with hair come in a few different subspecialties. Cosmetology schools offer courses that deal specifically with areas for hair stylists, colorists and shampoo technicians. Stylists are the students who deal primarily with the appearance of the hair and are taught the different techniques and methods of cutting hair for specific styles. It is important that people who study to be stylists have a certain flair for hair and a lot of fashion sense in order to achieve what he or she has visualized as well as to meet the expectations of the customer. The stylists should be able to cut and style hair as well as color and straighten it. The application of extensions may also be in the cards for these individuals. Colorists, who practice their craft, are usually certified by the board that regulates hair coloring and its application. Those who are certified by the board are usually of higher caliber than ordinary stylists because they know how to deal with the colors as well as the application of the coloring. Shampoo technicians are the first step that stylists usually go through before they become full-fledged stylists in cosmetology schools. Their role is to prepare the client's hair for the actual stylist to cut and style.

Skin Specialty

Estheticians are also part of the field. These individuals focus mainly on the state of the client's skin and how to improve it or maintain it. These specialists work in a broader field because they can be hired in salons, dermatologists' clinics, spas and many other places. They can perform different treatments and procedures that deal primarily with the skin such as facials, massages, body treatments, hair removal treatments, make up application, procedures for eyebrows and eyelashes and aromatherapy among others. These specialists need to do a number of training hours in order to be board certified and regulated. Cosmetology schools may also train them to work in a doctor's clinic to work as a medical esthetician.

Nail Technician

This specialist deals with manicure and pedicure sessions for clients of the salon or for a private practice. They can also handle clients who want applications for acrylic nails, gel nails and other types of applications for these specific parts of the body.

Makeup Artist

The makeup artist is another major course that is usually taught in cosmetology schools. They are trained and educated to apply cosmetics and other materials that can be used as makeup on an individual's face and other related parts of the body. They are hired for a variety of jobs in photography, salons, studios or theaters and various other purposes.

What Are Yoga Benefits?

Dubbed as the "science of health," yoga focuses more on a person's healthy wellbeing, compared to western medicine, which many describe as a "science of disease and treatment." Yoga can do so much in keeping a person in the pink of health, primarily by reducing the adverse effects of stress not only on the body but also on the mind and spirit. Find out more why yoga is good for your mind, body and soul.

Many find it an effective remedy for a wide range of health problems like arthritis, back pain, headache, asthma, respiratory ailment, and allergies. Like most forms of exercise, it has a vast range of benefits for the body. But the difference is that because it's low in impact, it doesn't strain your muscles as much. There's less risk of injury and wear and tear over time. And because it enables your body to relax, it releases tension and stiffness that can surely take a toll on your health.

Benefits for the Mind

Yoga doesn't only benefit the body but also the mind. The fact that this meditative workout soothes the mind, erases all anxieties and woes, and relaxes even the most-tension filled person, makes yoga perfect for anyone who has been under a lot of stress lately. Or if you're the type of person whose work or lifestyle puts you in the center of stress all the time, you'll surely welcome the peace of mind that yoga can give you. Benefits for the Soul

Another thing to love about this fitness workout is how it lets you get in touch with your inner self. Since it's meditative, practicing yoga allows you to get to the core of your innermost being. Diet for Gaining Muscle Mass Quickly

The best approach for gaining lean body mass is to have a constructive nutrition for making muscle mass and to have exercise sessions which are specifically designed for your kind of body. When you are looking for developing a good and fit body, the quality and the quantity of the food that is consumed into your body comes into play. The body should be supplied with necessary substances which will build muscle and helps us to work throughout the day without feeling any hunger. The count of calories should also be maintained in the optimum level. The food that is selected should also be wholesome.

A diet with the adequate amounts of carbohydrate and protein is necessary for developing muscle tissues. Carbohydrate content can be obtained by eating green vegetables, oats, whole grains, and fruits. Easy carbohydrate sources like sugar and related products should be avoided at any cost. Direct intake of such sugar laden carbohydrates will give you sugar attack and your fat cells will develop faster and it will become harder for attaining a lean body. These carbohydrates are needed by the body while you are working out in the gym. Therefore the pre-workout meal should be high in carbohydrates.

The food items which provide the right kind of protein are those like fish, chicken breast, beans, and egg whites. The primary ingredient in a muscle fiber is protein. Therefore it is to be supplied in surplus amounts for developing a lean body. You are required to take 0.7 to 0.8 g of protein per pound of your body mass. These proteins are mostly required while you are exercising in the gym. The resting period is when your muscle cells are repairing themselves by feeding on the protein. Therefore the post-workout meal is the one that should have high amount of protein in them.

The repairing of the muscle mass is another thing that is highly needed for a working body. The muscle fibers which are stretched to its limit will sustain certain injuries from the workout. This can be repaired by taking 'Omega 3' acids which is found in foods like salmon, sardines, flax seed oil, walnuts etc. Fat of peanut and avocado is also good for consumption. Other fats from animal and vegetable oil are to be avoided.

Do not take carbonated soft drinks. Replenishing your body with water will clear all the toxins and prevent dehydration. Milk and juices can help in providing the required nutrition. Rather than eating two or three large meals, it is better to consume small size meals at regular intervals for 4 to 6 times a day.

7 Week Fitness Training

There are a lot of workout routines that can be found in books and over the internet. It just goes to say that people desire to achieve physical fitness. There are hundreds of diets and fitness training. Many of them claim that one's body can transform within a matter of 7 days, 2 weeks, 7 weeks, or more. Many wonder why they keep losing and gaining weight while others do not understand why the 7 day fitness plan does not work. It might actually get quite confusing when trying to choose fitness training right for you.

However, 7 week fitness training is actually the best when it comes to achieving your personal goals and getting health benefits. It is also the right amount of time of training that you will also be able to enjoy its long term effects. Here is why:

Why 7 Weeks is All it Takes:

Research shows that creating healthy habits is key to a healthy and successful lifestyle. In order to make a habit that is healthy, an action needs to be done 21 times. This is why some fitness training promotes 21 sessions. Continual and repetitive action 21 times can be done in 7 weeks.

There has been further studies that show that the mind and the body needs to take time to be conditioned. For example, those preparing for a marathon can do it within 7 weeks because during the weeks they do several routines and exercises. On top of that, they prepare themselves mentally for what they will face.

Studies have shown that to modify one's lifestyle, it takes about 7-14 days to accept the new training and stick with it. Having a fitness training over 7 weeks will get the body used to the routines. Thus, whether you are male or female, 16 years old or 65, you will be able to enjoy every fitness level. Physical fitness is determined by your consistency in performing the routines.

Prolonged Effects:

Getting power over your brain is just another factor in fitness. Mental fitness is just as important as physical fitness. There is a saying that goes "Power is in the mind." When a brain is fit, it is able to take on other cognitive skills. Signs of a healthy brain is the ability to absorb information, understand relationships between people and objects, and make conclusions or plans.

Mental fitness is achieved by doing activities whether its playing board games, dancing, or even doing some yoga. When a brain is fit, you can prevent some diseases that come from aging such as dementia.

Thus, in a matter of 7 weeks, the brain and the body will be adjusted to your new way of thinking and routines. In short, a new lifestyle is developed. When the routine becomes a habit, it will not be difficult any longer. Running 3 kilometers every other day will become easier and you will reap the benefits. For example, you will enjoy having a stronger beating heart, less respiratory problems, less body fat, and more.

What Meat to Eat for Muscle Growth

So you're hitting the gym hard, lifting the weights and packing in proteins like there is no tomorrow. Do you find that you aren't getting the gains that you wanted? It might be that your protein intake is lacking in quality, and as such, you don't get all the gains you would expect from the workout you have done. This can be extremely frustrating as it means that all your hard work might not be making it to your muscles. Today we will look at the meats that boost performance and muscle gain, and the contents of meat that are important to performance.

What Should my Meat Contain?

There are a number of nutrients within meat, and some of them are more effective in muscle growth than others. Obviously there are a range of reasons to go to the gym and therefore a range of important nutrients, but today we will look at muscle growth. The important nutrients are...

  • Protein (particularly leucine) - you need protein for amino acids and leucine increases protein metabolism.
  • Saturated Fat - usually something to reduce in your diet, healthy amounts of saturated fat will increase testosterone, the hormone used to build muscle.
  • Unsaturated fat - unsaturated fat is essential for antioxidant and hormone transfer, so make sure you get some of this
  • Zinc -Required for good protein synthesis while also combining with saturated fat for testosterone boosting.
  • Selenium - this is a natural antioxidant and will protect your new muscle cells.

That said each type of meat will help you in different ways. Let's have a look at a few of the best options...

Best for Protein and Leucine - Venison and Tuna

As far as high quality protein and leucine go, it's difficult to find quality meat that doesn't fit the bill. Turkey, chicken, venison, tuna, ostrich and beef are all high in protein per 100g, with around 22g. Where venison and tuna really win though is their high levels of leucine. Leucine is one of your essential amino acids, and will substantially increase the rate of protein synthesis in the body. Powerful animals tend to have high amounts, so venison and tuna are packing more than 1900mg per 100g of meat. Bottom of the pile is lamb, which is trailing behind with only 17g of protein and 1336mg of leucine, so this is one to avoid.

Best for Saturated Fat - Beef and Salmon

Saturated fat often gets a bad reputation, and it's not unwarranted. The problem is that people often over consume saturated fat, and this can lead to complications. In this way, 100g of lamb contains 10g of saturated fat, which is more than you need, and so it again comes in bottom of the list. Joining it at the bottom of the list are turkey, chicken and tuna. They all have no saturated fat. This is great if you're on a diet, but obviously means that the testosterone benefits aren't there. Salmon and beef contain 3g of saturated fat per 100g, which is a healthy amount, and will boost your testosterone levels. This means more muscle building hormone, and more muscles.

Best for Unsaturated Fat - Salmon and Mackerel

Unsaturated fat aids in the absorption of fat soluble vitamins. After your workout your body is full of damage as you rip up the muscles. This, combined with energy production means you have the need for plenty of antioxidants. Vitamin E, A and K are needed to support your systems recovery, and you need unsaturated fat for this. Salmon and mackerel are packed with unsaturated fat, with 10g and 11g respectively. Coupled with their low levels of saturated fat and these fish are a winner for your post exercise recovery. Chicken, venison and tuna are bringing up the rear, with only 1g of unsaturated fat in each of them.

Best for Zinc - Ostrich and Beef

When it comes to zinc, land animals are better by rule of thumb. Zinc is an essential mineral in the production of testosterone, which helps stimulate muscle growth, as well as aiding in protein synthesis and immune function. Beef and ostrich contain 24% and 25% of your RDA per 100g respectively, meaning that on each serving you're likely to have great levels of zinc, and this will really boost your muscle gains. Avoid fish if you're looking for zinc, as it is limited in its levels, with salmon, mackerel and tuna all having small amounts.

Best for Selenium - Mackerel, Tuna and Ostrich

Selenium is an essential antioxidant and protects cells from damage, particularly during exercise. Before you hit the gym it is good to have high levels of selenium as you need the protection from muscle cell damage if you are lifting a lot and ripping the fibres. Mackerel contains 63% of your RDA in 100g of fish, while tuna contains 52% in the same amount and ostrich contains 51% in 100g of meat. This means that in a general serving, you'll get plenty of selenium. Venison is bringing up the rear in this nutrient, with only 14% of your RDA per 100g.

So what's the Best Meat?

As you can see, different meats have different levels of benefit. As you can only eat a certain amount of protein, a maximum of about 2g of protein per kg of body weight per day, your choice in important. FO-OD suggests that there are three standout meats; beef, ostrich and tuna. These all contain good levels of protein and leucine, making them a general good basis for your protein synthesis and muscle size. Ostrich and tuna are quite lean, so you will need to ensure you get your fats in other parts of your diet, but they are very high in selenium. Ostrich and beef are full of zinc, but have less leucine than the tuna. You can increase your zinc with some seeds in your diet, like pine nuts, or watermelon seeds. We would say that ostrich is probably the most complete meat choice, but is often hard to get hold of, so beef or tuna might be more affordable, but any of these three will see you getting the best gains than ever. Just make sure you overall diet is healthy and you'll be ripped in no time!

What Are The Causes Of Chronic Muscle Pain?

Chronic muscle pain is caused from various things and at times there are not specific causes that are be found. Muscle pain that repeatedly comes back and is urelenting is labeled chronic. This kind of pain often takes a severe physical, mental and emotional toll for the person suffering from it If the pain is diagnosed correctly, a remedy to the pain can be discovered.

Arthritis

Arthritis is found in joints and muscles. There are a few central kinds of arthritis: rheumatoid, osteoarthritis and juvenile. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition that results in pain and stiffness in the body. Osteoarthritis often leads to less mobility in the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is a condition when there is joint lining inflammation. Rheumatoid arthritis is often debilitating. Juvenile arthritis typically has an onset before the age of 18. Rheumatologists are medical professionals who study arthritis-related care. Hot and cold therapy as well as anti-inflammatory medications usually are successful in reducing the arthritis pain.

Pinched Nerves

When the nerves in the spine, back as well as other parts of the body are misaligned compressed or pinched that is called a pinched nerve. This is usually from a serious muscle strain to the area. This can cause the area muscles to spasm and become painful. There are many ways to get relief from pinched nerves, for example compression therapy, which relieves pressure on the nerves, steroid injections that numb the area and surgery.

Bulging Discs

A bulging disk can come from an injury or bad posture. Bulging or herniated disks compress muscles which results in lower back spasms and pain. Most doctors treat this condition with drugs or physical therapy exercises. For ongoing pain, surgery is an option to provide relief from the pressure.

Myositis

Myositis is muscle inflammation that causes severe swelling. Injury of infection are often the causes. In rare instances myositis is from an autoimmune disorder such as a thyroid condition or lupus. Myositis will often result in chronic pain if the underlying cause is not untreated. Muscles throughout the entire body are targeted including the shoulders, back, arms and legs.

Peripheral Neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy is a aggravated disease from nerves that send information from the brain down the spinal cord. It often will eventually result in a complete loss of sensation as well as the inability to move muscles. Before the end stages, this disease causes chronic muscle pain in the joints. Most doctors treats peripheral neuropathy by determining the underlying root cause, such as diabetes, lupus, a heart condition or uremia.

First Time Visit to the Chiropractor

Patients seeking the assistance of a chiropractor often know the basics of how an appointment works and how it can benefit them physically. However, many are not prepared for what they are going to experience and the changes that they can expect to see over the course of the next few days, weeks, and months. Before and during that first appointment, there are things that a patient can prepare for in order to make the experience more effective and more enjoyable.

Checking With the Health Insurance Company

It can be tempting to look for a chiropractor and call the first person that comes up in the search. However, some health insurance companies cover part or all of the cost of an appointment. In some cases, the coverage offers a discount on a set number of appointments each year. Others may only require a co-pay for the first couple of appointments. Once the limit has been reached, the patients are on their own. It makes sense to check and see if there is a chiropractor in the area that takes a person's health insurance. It can save money upfront and potentially cut costs in the long run as well. One phone call could mean real savings.

Health History and Reasons for the Appointment

Before a chiropractor will work on a patient, he or she will need to know more about the individual's health history. No every person is a candidate for this type of treatment and it makes sense that a practitioner wants to know as much as possible about a person's medical history before going any further. Most offices have a survey or questionnaire that patients fill out before heading back to see the doctor. It covers basic health concerns and issues and ask patients to list out any past surgeries, current medication, or medical conditions that may be of concern.

Anxiety About the Adjustment

Everyone has heard someone talk about his or her adjustment. Some like to talk about the loud noise, often considered a popping noise, when the changes are made to the bodies. Others describe how the body is manipulated and explain the force in which the doctor must use in order to see the results. For someone that regularly seeks out this kind of treatment, these stories don't mean much. He or she has already been through it. However, people that are new to the experience often begin to get anxiety about what is going to happen at the appointment and whether or not they will be able to relax enough to allow the practitioner to work. Instead of listening to someone else describe the situation, it is possible to set up a consultation with the chiropractor to get more information about what the appointment entails and what a person can expect to experience.

Trending Toward Health and Well-Being in 2013, Part II

Heading into the New Year there are resolutions, goals, trends and lists forecasting activities and interests for the next 12 months. Trends viewed through the prism of annual predictions include:

1. Health

2. Sustainability

3. Increasing Use and Consumption of Greens

4. Snacking & Mini Meals

5. Wise Buy Proteins

6. Meatless Meals

7. Food Transparency

8. Cooking Your Own aka CYO

9. Guilty Pleasures

10. Local, Local, Local

Each of the ten has qualities to aid in achieving well-being. I've divided this list in half. I covered the first five trends in "Trending Toward Health and Well-Being in 2013, Part I." This post continues the conversation with detailed info on the list's remaining five trends.

Meatless Meals continue to gain popularity. The challenging economy, continued interest in ethnic cuisines and vegetarianism have helped fuel this trend. Legumes that are becoming more popular and are more readily available include edamame (green soybeans) lentils and soy nuts (roasted soybeans). Some of these items may also be categorized as Wise Buy Proteins.

Food Transparency is one of the concerns in today's marketplace. People crave the details on the sources and composition of the things we eat-we want to know when and where it was made or grown, as well as who produced or harvested it, before making purchase decisions. One of the biggest challenges food buyers face, is making sure they are tapped into credible and accurate information.

Cooking Your Own (CYO) is linked to Food Transparency. People are using the information on what to buy and where to buy it, to stock ingredients for the meals they are cooking. CYO gives the home-cook control over what to make, how much to season and exactly what ingredients to include. This also allows home-cooks to focus on the health issues they are most concerned with and to easily tailor family menus to address food-related health issues.

Guilty Pleasures allow you to indulge food desires and cravings without punishing yourself. It's about balance and not excess. Almost everyone loves chocolate-rather than completely omit it from your diet, indulge in a chocolate that is deeply flavored such as bittersweet or dark chocolate. It's a treat to savor yet the rich antioxidants in the chocolate are a bonus. Chocolate may not be your guilty pleasure, but we each have something-mine is cheese, I don't eat this every day, but occasionally.

Local, Local, Local The availability of locally grown food is typical for some and an experience to savor for folks in urban areas. With more farmers' markets, community gardens and grocery stores interested in working with local vendors it is becoming easier to eat fresh local foods. Realizing this may not be an option in colder regions year 'round, by Cooking Your Own, you can stock up on fresh local ingredients in season and freeze or can them.

These are my thoughts on Food Trends in 2013-I'll continue to share info and tips to help you make wise decisions in your quest for good health and well-being on this journey to a healthy lifestyle.

Take away: Health and well-being continue to be hot topics for 2013. If your goal for the year is about improving nutrition, increasing fitness and focusing on your well-being, you can rely on these trends to help you stay on the right track.

What Causes A Deep Voice

There are a couple reasons why some men have deep voices, and others have a higher pitched voice. Vocal pitch depends mainly on the vocal cords known as the larynx. The thicker the larynx is the deeper the pitch.

Your voice box must be calm, and have less stress. If the muscles in your voice box is tight it will only cause your voice to become higher. Think of a guitar string the thin wires produce the highest pitch sound, while the thicker ones produce the deepest. As you add tighten the strings on the guitar the sound becomes higher, and higher.

Breathing patterns also affect your voice, it is proven men who breathe through their chest have a much higher voice than a man who lets their abdomen do the pushing as they breathe.

Diaphragm Breathing - Like most people as crazy as it seems your probably breathing the wrong way. Who can ever figure that people can end up breathing the wrong way.

What I want you to do right now is too stand up. Now take a deep breathe.. After your done I have a quick question okay.. go stand up, and breathe. Did your shoulders & chest rise as you took your breathe? If it did, well you were breathing the wrong way. Breathing through your chest is the improper way of breathing it strains your throat area, and ultimately causes a strain on your own voice.

To breathe the correct way think of your belly moving in, and out. Your chest & shoulders shouldn't even move. Breathing through your diaphragm gives you more power to your voice, will deepen your voice, and cause less strain on your voice.

Posture many people get in the habit of having very bad posture. Without realizing the effect it has on their voice. Maintaining good posture is essential for proper functioning of your vocal cords. Don't you slump your shoulders and push your chin forward, that is the extremely poor posture it restricts your throat and crushes your vocal cords so that less air can vibrate over them to create the resonance needed for a deep voice.

These are the reasons why some male have deeper voices than others; a lot comes down to genetics. However, there is a way to train your voice just like a instrument to the pitch that you would like to produce. Remember just because somebodies voice is high pitched; that does that mean they are stuck with that voice.

The Paleo Diet - An Old Approach in the Modern World

When it comes to diets you probably already heard of the millions of different fads that have come and gone. They all seem to have their fans and detractors, most of which come and go. Then they are repackaged and people start to try them out again before they give up because things get a bit too difficult to manage. If you are someone that is tired of all the different options out there, consider one more shot at losing weight and feeling great, start with The Paleo Diet and you will see greatness.

The core of this diet relies heavily on rethinking food and exercise as a whole. It forces you to see what made ancient human beings agile, fit, muscular and overall healthy. Compare that to the millions of people today and you'll realize that the majority of humans are not fit, they are not agile, and can barely run a mile without getting so tired they slump over in near defeat. If that sounds like something that describes what you're feeling, than you should definitely look into this plan that changes the way you eat, live, and thrive.

Eating food is not frowned upon with this plan; in fact, you are going to love food again in a new way. It starts with first getting rid of a large amount of what you're probably used to eating today. You will no longer be consuming large amounts of bread, processed foods and things that don't derive naturally. That means no more salty snacks; no more paragraph long boxed items, and much more. Before you scoff at the notion, you will not be hungry you will be eating natural things, things that taste amazing, and will love what you're eating.

The many different things that you can enjoy include meat (grass fed), fowl, fish, eggs, vegetables, oils (natural), fruits, nuts and tubers (sweet potatoes and yams). You can eat a great deal of the aforementioned, in fact many times, as much as you want with a few points to keep in mind, and you will not only have a great amount of energy, you will not mass the processed foods that you may have been used to previously. It's these naturally occurring things that your body will be able to use and digest far easier and within a month's span of time you will feel amazing.

Now, there is one caveat that most people are not going to love hearing, and that this diet works best with a great deal of exercise. You have to move your body, and if you're used to sitting a lot for work or for fun, you need to make sure that you find a great deal of motivation to exercise. Whether you are running, hitting the gym, cycling, or anything else, you need to find things that will get your body into motion on a regular basis. You may be able to lose initially with the plan without this step, but to get lean, gain muscle, and be ultimately fit you'll need to make sure that you are moving.

The Relaxing Properties Of Hot Yoga

In today's modern world, relaxation has become elusive. For some, it has even become a luxury. Unlike before when relaxation comes naturally in between work or chores, people now find it hard to slow down and take a break. They work nonstop and when time comes for their bodies to take a break, their minds keep on working, making mental lists of things to do, deadlines, and so on.

Sure, a little stress is good for you. It keeps you on the go, keeps your adrenaline high. But too much stress can take a toll on your health and put you at risk of a wide range of diseases. We can't emphasize more how important relaxation is. It's an integral part of a person's healthy wellbeing. And one effective way to get the relaxation that you need is through hot yoga.

Hot yoga is like your typical yoga. But as you can guess from the name, it's done in a heated environment. A hot yoga room has a temperature of about 100 degrees. A little too hot for comfort, you might think. However, the benefits are countless. Let's get down to its relaxation properties.

Step inside a hot yoga room and you'd immediately think that there's no way you can relax inside this sauna-like surrounding. But you'll be surprised at how relaxing hot yoga can be. The thing is, yoga puts you in a meditative state. Even though it's very hot in there, your mind is taken to a place where it's soothed and calmed enough to make you ignore the heat.

First, the instructor will help erase your doubts, worries and anxieties, whether it's about your work, home, family or about the hot yoga itself. In a short while, you'll calm down and release all the stressed filling up your mind. You'll immediately feel relieved as sweat drips down from your forehead and other parts of the body, and you get into a repetitive routine of deep breathing.

Next, you'll be doing unique yoga poses, similar to what you usually do in a regular yoga class. But these poses are to be extended a little longer. In every pose that you do, you'll achieve a state of relaxation that's not possible in any other way. It's not only the mind that calms down but so are the body and spirit. The body relaxes in such a way that all the stiffness and tensions are removed. You'll feel that your muscles are more at ease and flexible.

And that's not only because of the yoga poses but also because of the heat in the room. As you know, warm bodies are softer, more pliant, and more flexible. They're also less prone to injuries. Without the stiffness, muscles can work out more efficiently without the risk of pulling a hamstring or hurting your back.

Finally, the act of stretching, balancing, and creating pressure on the muscles is effective in releasing stress toxins from the body. This also improves blood circulation. How does that happen? When pressure is created, it cuts off the blood supply to some veins and arteries, then when pressure is released, the blood rushes out and instantly, circulation is improved dramatically.

With A Song In My Heart

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved to sing. On very special occasions like my birthday or Christmas, I would sometimes receive a coveted 45 RMP record set containing songs from one of my favorite stories. When I received Cinderella, I was beyond ecstatic. I played those two yellow records over and over until I had memorized every single word of each song. At one point, my mother begged me to go out and play. The records would be there upon my return. They were, and I continued to sing my little heart out.

During high school, Mom once commented that, if I could learn my lessons as well as I could memorize songs, I would be at the top of my class. There has always been something about singing that has brought me joy and soothed my soul. Sometimes, though, I forget that!

Over the holidays, my beautiful friend Melina handed me a book that she wanted me to read so that we could discuss it together. The Four Fold Way by Angeles Arrien is an incredible read that poses many thought-provoking ideas. It discusses the indigenous people and their innate commitment to walking the paths of the warrior, teacher, healer, and visionary. "Among indigenous cultures, there is a belief that our favorite songs are our power songs," the book tells us. This caused me to consider the songs that resonate so deeply for me and what is behind this. "Let There Be Peace on Earth," "Imagine," "Somewhere Over the Rainbow,"... the list goes on. All these depict my deep love of others and my lifelong desire to be a source of peace to all that I meet. Each hearing stirs my spirit and connects me to those that travel this path with me.

My beautiful granddaughter Anna brings out my deepest sense of love and appreciation and I find that we often break out in song when we are together. She reminds me that raising my voice and belting out a tune can lift the spirits and make the heart soar. I need to remember that when life seems stressful and solutions aren't easily found.

William James said, "I don't sing because I am happy, I am happy because I sing." Why not spend some time reflecting on the songs that touch your heart and re-ignite your power? Then join me around the campfire in spirit, and we will all raise ourselves up from worry and stress to a place of joy and wonder.

Let the music begin!

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: A New Trend-Setter In the Medical Field

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has suggested a new direction in the treatment of the kind of health problems which were earlier considered to be incurable. It is a treatment procedure that involves inhaling pure and unadulterated oxygen in a specially crafted pressurized chamber. The whole idea of this treatment is based on the law of physics according to which the amount of gas that dissolves in a liquid is directly proportional to the pressure exerted on it. So the pressure of the chamber increases the amount of oxygen that is absorbed in the fluid of the body by almost 10 times. Although more oxygen can be dissolved if the pressure is raised, but for the mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy 1.5 atmospheric pressure has been adopted as the standard point.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has yielded multiple health benefits. There are many patients whose wound healing process has been compromised by their other health problems, which make them a perfect choice for this therapy. If a diabetic patient develops certain skin problem, then that can also be taken care of with the help of this therapy by supplying sufficient oxygen to the affected area. This therapy shows huge beneficial effects to heal skin problems which might be caused by the hostile functions of aerobic or anaerobic bacteria. They attack the skin tissues and causes potential damage to them. If oxygen is supplied to these parts in sufficient amount, then this problem can be effectively encountered.

The paucity in the supply of oxygen can bring about numerous skin problems, where hyperbaric oxygen therapy becomes essential. Bacteria which show inimical effect on skin become very strong and unleash their full harmful potential, if skin tissues are deprived of oxygen supply in sufficient amount. Lower oxygen level creates atmosphere which is fertile for the performance of harmful bacteria. But once a patient with such problem is put into mild hyperbaric chamber, the therapy exercises a check on the growth and performance of the germs and activates the body's defense mechanism against them. When an effective restrain is put on the growth of the bacteria, toxic elements produced by them are also reduced. By that time body becomes able to wield its protective shield and fight the infections and return to the normal state of health.

This therapy also shows good results when applied to the case of malfunctioning of parts of brain that happens in multiple sclerosis, brain injuries caused by drug or alcohol which compromises the functioning of some of the nerve cells and reduces them to 'idling neurons'- neurons although alive but cannot function properly. The application of this therapy has shown remarkable outcome in waking up these lethargic nerve cells.

The administration of this therapy requires the whole of the body to be put inside the hyperbaric chamber, even if the wound that needs this treatment is on a particular limb. It is also imperative to keep the side effects of this therapy in mind. Special precaution should be taken in the case of the patients who are already suffering from heart condition. In case of such patients, mild hyperbaric therapy is implemented to avoid the risk of decreasing heart rate. It is always advisable to inform the doctor about the prior health problems, so that necessary precautionary measures can be taken while the patient undergoes this treatment.

Plastic Surgery Benefits for Children and Youth

Plastic surgery has often been associated with vain adults who wish to change the way they look for the sake of vanity. In spite of this, the field has been thriving for several decades already and more innovations and techniques have prompted individuals from both genders to embrace it. These days, the field has been viewed less and less as based on aesthetics but instead has been linked with many psychological benefits as well as physical benefits which are important aspects of humanity and society. Recently, the field has been introduced to children through their parents who see the various benefits that their children can get from it.

Benefits for Kids

Apart from the singular benefit of changing one's appearance, there are also many different advantages of kids getting plastic surgery at a young age. Changing something that is not looked on favorably by peers is one of the obvious advantages of this field. Children are particularly prone to getting hurt, physically and mentally, when their peers have a difficult time accepting the differences in our physical appearances, which makes us unique. Children with buckteeth, cleft palates, big ears and large noses are often the brunt of cruel jokes and bullying, which can have devastating effects on the victims. Having the chance to change how one looks can actually give some relief to the child from the almost daily routine of being the brunt of jokes and bullying. Another benefit that one can get from cosmetic procedures is the self-confidence that one looks similar to other kids and that there is nothing that the others can use against them.

This relief can be palpable for many children who have experienced being teased for their appearance. Looking pretty much like all the others can be a relief and a balm for the children's bruised egos and selves. Getting to choose how one looks like is also another advantage that plastic surgery can bring to children. If one had the chance to choose how one's nose or ears will look like, they can opt for one that they will like or view favorably. The satisfaction of knowing that they look pretty or normal is something that children will be relieved to have. Yet another benefit of the field is brought about by actually being able to have a reconstruction of the part of their bodies that they might not have due to being born this way or some trauma. Some children are born with deformed ears, appendages and other parts of the body. Plastic surgery with reconstruction of both form and function can help give these children a chance at a normal life or something close to it.

These are most of the benefits that children can get from plastic surgery. Parents need to know the risks and possible complications that come with each kind of procedure in order to assess the situation properly and responsibly. Cosmetic surgeons and expert doctors can recommend whether a child is suitable for an operation or not.

The Right Physician Is Crucial When Treating Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia

Treating heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia almost always requires an intensive regimen of medications, lifestyle changes, diet and exercise to keep the symptoms under control and prevent or delay the onset of heart disease. When an individual is diagnosed with this relatively rare disorder (it occurs in about one in five hundred individuals worldwide), doctors will often have other family members tested and evaluated since it is an inherited genetic disorder. If this disease is suspected by a general practitioner, he or she will usually refer the patient to a cardiologist or a specialist in cholesterol problems, sometimes called a lipids specialist, in order to confirm the diagnosis and determine the best treatment options.

Lipids Specialists Keep Current On The Latest Treatment Options

One of the most important reasons to consult with a cardiologist or lipids specialist is because FH is so often misdiagnosed or missed entirely until heart disease has set in, often leading to complications such as artherosclerosis, heart attack or stroke. Lipids specialists have had additional training in diagnosing and treating metabolic disorders related to cholesterol imbalances, including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Because the options for treating FH are many and varied, lipids specialists spend a great deal of time keeping up with the latest protocols by reading the appropriate medical literature, participating in research studies and becoming active members in various organizations dedicated to the understanding and treatment of lipid disorders.

Misdiagnosis Of Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia

It is estimated that up to 80% of individuals who have heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia are never diagnosed, leading to heart disease, artherosclerosis, heart attacks and strokes that can be devastating and, in some cases, fatal. Some individuals are never properly diagnosed with FH even after the onset of heart disease simply because it is a relatively rare disorder that not all doctors are familiar with. In other instances, patients may be misdiagnosed with other disorders or illnesses because of similar symptoms. In these cases, treatment may be inappropriate or insufficient to curb eventual complications. If you or a loved one is diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome, sometimes referred to as Syndrome X, and there is a family history of early heart disease, high cholesterol or heart attack or stroke, it is advisable to talk to a specialist, as many of the symptoms of Syndrome X mimic those of heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.

Who Should See A Lipids Specialist?

If you or a family member meet any of the following criteria, it is especially important for you and your family to see a lipids specialist or a cardiologist who is familiar with a variety of aggressive cholesterol treatment options:

• Any children diagnosed with familial hypercholesterolemia

• Anyone with homozygous FH

• Any individual who hasn't responded well to conventional therapies

• Any individual who can't tolerate the more common therapies

• Any person who is a candidate for more aggressive protocols such as apheresis or liver transplant

• Men and women with a family history of early coronary disease (less than 45 years old at onset in men and less than 55 years old in women)

Lipids specialists can work closely with your GP or family doctor to develop an appropriate, long-range treatment plan for heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. They can also help you and your family members learn more about the illness and how to improve your family's odds of delaying or preventing serious cardiac consequences.

Advantages of Medical Records Scanning

Medical records contain important and sensitive information regarding patients, such as birth and family records, illness, and other personal matters. Most hospitals have a certain section where doctors keep these files. They process many papers every day so they have to organize everything to avoid mistakes. There are instances, however, when calamities and accidents strike that lead to the loss of files. Papers are hard to recover once they get wet or burned. This is why many hospitals and medical facilities look for alternatives in keeping medical records.

Technology lets people make digital copies, which is useful for keeping different types of files. This adds to the flexibility of medical records as you can save photos and videos unlike the traditional word texts. Many hospitals use Electronic Medical Records or EMR to convert old documents to a digital format. This reduces the clutter in record sections as you only need a computer to keep different files. It also improves the efficiency of their staff as they do not have to spend significant time looking for a specific record.

Here are some of the advantages of medical records scanning:

Saves Space

Most hospitals need an entire room to keep all the records of their patients. Digital records, on the other hand, only require a corner of the room. Digital copies remove all the bulk in an area and create additional space. It is like shrinking an entire room to a hard drive by using medical records scanning. This makes the area look bigger and spacious. People can even use the new area for a more beneficial purpose.

Security

A disadvantage of keeping physical records is the risk of theft. The hospital is a busy place and many people go in and out every day. You cannot monitor everyone so it is hard to find the real culprit. This might cause information leak, exposing the patient's confidential information. The benefit of having digital copies is it has a system that monitors people who access it. It records what documents you take, edit, and delete. This increases the security and offers a peace of mind to your patients. You do not have to worry about losing the files either because they have a backup, making file recovery easy.

Lower Labor Costs

Many devices can perform tasks that require many people. This reduces the need of employing and paying more people to do the same job. It also saves time because you do not have to screen all the applicants. You can allot the money you save from labor costs for another thing.

Fewer Mistakes

Digital systems perform a task according to what you input so there is no room for mistakes. It ensures that all files are processed correctly. It saves you from problems due to paperwork mistakes. The hospital is a delicate environment and one mistake can risk the life of a patient.

medical records scanning is a great way to improve the working process in hospitals and medical facilities. It reduces paperwork, increases security, and adds space. Try it now to see its benefits.

The Modern Chiropractic Office: What's In Store For 2013

Today's chiropractor faces challenges and has exciting new opportunities to thrive in today's demanding health care field, whether you are just beginning or have years of practical experience. Chiropractors need complete access inner, outer resources as well as embrace technology to help create a health and wellness.

Chiropractors are healers looking to find methods to heal the physical, psychological and spiritual injuries of their patients. There is a trend away from just using adjustments and manipulations and there is a shift towards using available resources to address difficult challenges.

This is an integrative approach, which combines mastery of your skilled hands with recent technology and discovery, since craft alone is not sufficient. Students and doctors are shifting away from creating x-ray markings and manipulation offices to learning nutritional information and functional movement diagnoses which use simple exercises to bring awareness to injured areas, and other exercises that help functional movement. This paradigm shifts responsibility to the patient for improvement of their health and well-being. Young and experienced doctors with expanding offices are evolving because they use modern technology such as the internet.

Chiropractors need to stay current with the rapid pace of technical innovation. Information Technology has changed the way your patients communicate. Patients have a legitimate need for access to their health care professional. The modern office uses systems that integrate tests, exams, nutrition and exercise journals that allow for enhanced client interactivity online. A new or existing patient may schedule an appointment on the internet and even make payments online. The patient enters the practice and fill out forms and symptoms on the computer. Instead of a waiting area, the client can use an "active care" room where they can use the Laser Gym (which has a light laser with a moving target) that improves pelvic motion.

The chiropractor can also use tools like a Deep Muscle Device for fascial release, neurological pain as well as tools for pain control and stimulation of meridian points without acupuncture needles, nutrition suggestions, treatment tables and the chiropractor can prescribe exercise therapy.

Standard testings techniques are complimented by gait analysis tools and body fat analysis devices, laser therapy for pain which are helping to advance the field of chiropractic. These are also assessments that classify functional movement patterns, as well as weight management tools that may guide manual manipulation, lifestyle recommendations and corrective exercises. These tools, diagnostic tests and at-home interventions can be use to determine the biggest areas of physical deficiency, as well as show limitations and hopefully correlate these with the desired outcome of well-being and optimal health.

How to Search Like a Doctor - Finding Online Medical Advice

If you can search the internet like a doctor you will have access to the best of the medical internet. To find out how to search like a doctor, the best thing to do is ask a doctor what they would look for. But if you don't have easy access to a doctor to ask, here are some tips of what to be aware of when searching for online medical advice.

There are three types of medical information online: the pages written by patients and those written by doctors are the main two.

Those written by doctors are structured from the point of view of diseases and what symptoms they cause. The pages written by patients are written from the opposite perspective. They describe symptoms with a view to working out what the diagnosis might be. Most patients search the internet using terms that patients use, whereas doctors write using terms that doctors use.

It is always easier to search like a doctor when you have a diagnosis because you can then use the medical term. When you don't know the medical term there are still ways of finding better information.

For example, if you search for "black phlegm" all the results are web pages written by patients (whether or not you add the quotation marks).

If you search for "black sputum" (including the quotation marks) some of the results are medical.

Finally, throw in the term "diagnosis" and you will have found pages written by doctors.

Warning: don't scroll too far down or you'll discover that there is a thrash metal band called "Black sputum" and a competitor called "Black phlegm" - this is probably not what you are looking for.

The third type of site is out to make money from you. The quality of the medical information is not a priority for them. The money usually comes from advertising but sometimes from selling remedies with little or no medical evidence behind them.

The first two types of medical site were those written by patients or by doctors. The third is written by neither. The focus is on getting as many people to the site as possible. They have put thought into how patients search the internet so they can appear high up on the Google results for phrases patients use. Unfortunately, doctors are still only beginning to write pages that will be found when patients search.

The information on these sites has often been copied and pasted from other sites. When there is a doctor whose name and reputation is on the line, they will carefully check the information attributed to them and update them when things change. On the third type of site there is no quality control.

With this kind of site, be wary of the information. It may not be as accurate or helpful as it first seems. See if the site tells you where its information came from. Very often, there will be some kind of disclaimer but it might take a little searching out. Examples we have found include phrases such as:

"[This website] compiled the information contained on this Website from a wide variety of sources ranging from reputable medical publications to non-authoritative websites of unclear ownership. It is neither feasible nor practicable to confirm the accuracy of every piece of information compiled from all these varied sources."

"Information may be written, created, or compiled by people who are not medical experts. Information is not necessarily reviewed for accuracy by medical experts."

If you come across sites filled with advertising or selling products then try to be cynical and perhaps move on to the next result.

However you search and whatever results you come up with, one of the best things you can do is read several sites to get a fuller picture. Don't rely on the first site that comes up in the search results, compare it with others, use the hints given here to help assess the quality of the site and the information it provides. And, if you can, maybe ask a doctor about what you have found.

Do You Want To Be Ideally Fit? Here Are Four Important Factors That Will Help You Achieve Your Goal

Why is it that every man's good intentions to achieve his maximum potential level of fitness, usually ends in failure? A failure, which normally has to wait until the following New Year, when yet another resolution is made, which, in all probability will fail just like the numerous others which have gone before. Here are just four simple to follow ways, selected from the thousands of others that are just as effective in their results. Please bear in mind that even these few topics are not covered in their entirety in this short article. This article is only meant as a guide to help you understand better where you should be concentrating your efforts.

1) Eat Healthy Food

You don't need to starve yourself to be healthy. Just avoid junk food and count those calories. You will be surprised how easy it is to lose that fat and turn it into muscle. Do not forget the importance of a daily intake of a reasonable amount of fruit and vegetables. Food that is good for you usually is delicious too. So why not continue to eat delicious food rather than greasy burgers and mushy chips.

2) Lift Weights

Apart from eating well, the best way to turn your fat into muscle is to lift weights regularly. At least three times a week. The best way to improve your metabolism is to increase the strength of your muscles, and the best way to increase the strength of your muscles is by lifting weights. They need not be overly heavy weights, but, more importantly, over the course of every week, you must make sure that you concentrate on all parts of your body. Do not improve the muscles in your upper body while neglecting to look after your lower body. Pumping iron is not only good for you, it is fun too. So much fun that it is easy to get addicted to it. Once you start, you won't want to stop, and those sessions will become the highlight of your week.

3) Cardiovascular Exercise

This type of exercise is commonly known as simply "cardio". It concentrates on keeping your heart in top shape. A healthy heart keeps your blood circulating to all parts of your body, which keeps your whole body in tip-top shape. Some people say that walking on a treadmill or pushing pedals on an exercise bike is boring, but you don't lose any of the benefit the effort is giving you if you do the exercise in front of your favorite television program or while reading a book on a stand. In any case, when the weather is suitable, why not go out for a real walk, jog, run, or bicycle ride. As long as you are not breathing in polluted air, exercising outside is every bit as beneficial as exercising indoors.

4) Stay Motivated

After the initial enthusiasm of starting a new fitness regime has faded, it is often difficult to stay motivated. Soon trips to the gym get missed and a few unhealthy titbits find their way into your mouth. As time goes on the lapses get more and more frequent. However, there are many ways to prevent this from happening, but in my experience, the best is to have someone take photographs of you on a regular basis and to keep a record of important measurements of your progress. For example, your weight, the size of weights you are working with, and endurance times on the treadmill and other exercise equipment. There is nothing more motivational than being able to look at your records and photos so that you can prove both to yourself and others, that your efforts are indeed worthwhile. This ability alone will keep you motivated until a healthy lifestyle becomes the natural and only way of life for you.

What Is Hypnotherapy And Why Is It Done?

A mental health professional may suggest hypnotherapy as an aid to psychological counseling. The hypnotic state allows patients to explore their hidden or painful thoughts, memories and emotions. Someone who is unfamiliar with the practice may ask, "What is hypnotherapy, and why is it done?"

Hypnotherapy, also called hypnosis or hypnotic suggestion, is a type of mental health therapy. The medical profession considers it to be a valid complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) practice. It can be an effective treatment method for some people, if they are good candidates for hypnosis and the therapist is a trained professional.

During hypnotherapy, the therapist uses mental pictures and verbal repetition to help the patient reach a trance condition. Through guided relaxation and intense focus, the patient achieves a heightened sense of awareness. This trance-like state blocks out the outside world and opens the mind to suggestions.

How Hypnotherapy Works

Psychotherapists use hypnosis in one of two ways: suggestion therapy or patient analysis. During suggestion therapy, hypnosis enables a better response to mental suggestions. This can help patients change certain behaviors and habits, such as nail biting and cigarette smoking. It can also help patients change how they perceive the senses, which is useful for treating pain.

Another approach to hypnotherapy uses the trance condition to discover the root cause of a symptom or disorder. For example, hypnosis can help patients remember painful events from their past that are hidden in their memories. Once revealed, the doctor and patient can address the trauma in psychotherapy.

The Benefits of Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy offers many benefits for mental health patients and those who want to change their behaviors. Studies have shown hypnosis as effective for coping with stress, anxieties, fears and phobias. The hypnotic state may also improve the rate of treatment success with conditions like sleep disorders, depression, grief and post-traumatic stress.

Researchers have studied hypnotherapy for other conditions too. Among them are physical pain, menopause symptoms and behavioral challenges. For some patients, hypnosis can treat the pain associated with cancer, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, dental procedures and headaches. Menopausal women may find relief from hot flashes and other symptoms through hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is also used to treat insomnia, smoking, bed-wetting, over-eating and other behaviors.

The Risks of Hypnotherapy

Patients who are hesitant to consider hypnotherapy are usually wary of the perceived risks involved with this type of therapy. Modern medicine considers hypnosis to be a safe complementary practice when conducted by a trained therapist. While some patients may experience headaches, drowsiness or anxiety from hypnotherapy, adverse reactions are rare.

Mental health professionals do not recommend hypnotherapy for patients with severe mental problems, or for those who are using alcohol or drugs. They also caution its use for age regression, which can create false or altered memories. This particular use of hypnosis is controversial and has limited scientific support.

Is Hypnotherapy Dangerous?

What is hypnotherapy? The answer lies with the reason for seeking this type of therapy. As a complementary practice conducted by a qualified therapist, it can safely integrate with psychotherapy or counseling. Like other CAM practices, it is not right for everyone. Health professionals believe that the more likely a patient is to enter the hypnotic state, the more that patient will benefit from the therapy.

Contrary to popular belief, hypnotherapy is not brainwashing or mind control. A therapist cannot make patients do things that they do not want to do. The creation of false memories is the greatest risk with hypnotherapy. As a complementary practice, it may be less effective than traditional mental health treatments.

Evrything About Sedation Dentistry

Are you afraid of going to the dentist? You're in good company if so. Millions of people have anxiety about going to the dentist, so they avoid doing it. The good news is that you don't have to suffer and let your dental health deteriorate because you're too afraid to make a dental appointment. Sedation dentistry is a technique that lets people with serious dental trepidation get the treatment they need.

What is Sedation Dentisty?

Sedation dentistry is a dental procedure where sedatives are used to relax and calm a patient while he or she undergoes dental work. For years, the typical method of sedative delivery was by IV injection, but you have nothing to worry about if you also dislike needles. Most of the time the sedatives are delivered orally. An IV will only be used in cases where heavy sedation is called for.

Is this General Anesthesia?

Sedation dentistry is different than general anesthesia. The biggest difference is that the patient stays conscious after the sedative has been delivered. This is useful for the dentist because it's easier to work when the patient can follow commands. Despite the fact that the patient never loses consciousness, few people remember the procedure. The other difference is that the sedatives aren't usually intended to eliminate pain while the dentist works. Generally, during a sedation dentistry procedure the patient is both sedated and injected with local anesthetics to eliminate pain.

The Advantages

There are tons of benefits to sedation dentistry. It keeps you calm and relaxed during your dental procedure, even if you would normally have a lot of fear. Sedation is very useful during long procedures as well. Most people don't remember the period of time when they were sedated. It might seem like only minutes have passed when in reality it took a few hours to complete the dental work. This also means that more work can be done in a single visit to the dentist. Many procedures that require multiple visits normally can be completed during one appointment if the patient is sedated.

Is This Right for You?

A lot of people have some kind of fear of going to the dentist; it's nothing to be ashamed of. Sedation dentistry is a great option for anybody with those kind of fears. It's also a good idea for children; in fact, it might be the only way a child can get dental work done. It's important to note that sedation isn't just a good idea for those who have fear. Even people who have no fear might enjoy the extra comfort that sedation can provide, or they might want to take advantage of the fact that sedation allows them to get more work done in a single visit. This means less time missed at work or school.

If you want your next dental appointment to be more relaxing and comfortable, give sedation dentistry a try. Most dentists can administer some level of sedation, though you might have to look around if you think you'll require heavy sedation. Don't put your dental health at jeopardy by avoiding the dentist; just ask about sedation and leave your fears at home.
